Wing Bowl XIV Attracts Large Crowd
As has come to be expected, a very large crowd of students, faculty, staff, alumni, parents, and friends, watched nine students eat as many wings as they could in eight minutes and three shop skits that poked good-natured fun at fellow students, administrators, and faculty, at Wing Bowl XIV in the Restall Sports Center Thursday evening.
At 32 wings, the champion was Kevin Costigan 1W6, power plant technology; second place, missing by just one wing was, went to Nazir Black 1W4, power plant technology; and third place, at 30, was Bob Millison 1W5, paint and coatings technology. In addition to receiving trophies, Costigan received $150, Black received $100, and Millison received $50.
The Power Plant skit, “West Point Williamson,” was voted the number one skit and participants received $500. The second-place prize of $200 went to Brick Shop and the third-place prize of $100 went to Paint Shop.
The other students who participated in the wing eating contest were: Brian Arrell 1W6, 26 wings; Jake Smith 1W5, 21; Geragheo Ameroso 1W4, 19; Keron Tull 1W6, 18; Josh Schneider 1W5, 17; and Brian McGillaway 1W4, 14.
The evening was hosted by Tim Burbage, director of food services. A surprise visit by Santa Claus (Chuck Feld, hort instructor), provided many in the audience with candy canes. Burbage and his group of alumni “The Monday Night Club,” created the Wing Bowl and fund it each year. Assisting during the event were members of the Wing Night Team, a dedicated group of students, staff, and friends, who help at each Thursday evening’s Wing Night.
