Power Plant Program Receives Distribution Circuit Breaker
PPL Electric Utilities, of Allentown, donated a 15.5 kV distribution circuit breaker to the Power Plant Technology Program recently. It will be used to teach students protective relaying on transmission lines.
John Beaudry, director of power plant technology, said “This is a tremendously valuable teaching tool and we appreciate PPL for thinking of us. A nice feature of the breaker is that one side contains plexi glass, allowing students to view the interior workings.”
The donation was made possible through the efforts of William Skumanich 7W9, TCC operations manager at PPL, who arranged the donation, and Dustin Shadler 0W5, a sub station technician, who did the maintenance and calibration on the breaker so it could be used for teaching.
