Preparing for Arrival of CAT Engine/Generator
Tom Ott, Energy Island project manager, takes some measurements for a floor segment in the Power Plant that will support the 480 kW CAT natural gas engine/generator when it arrives later this spring. It will have sufficient power generation by itself to power the core campus. This slightly used engine/generator was located in Kansas by Tom Ott and will be an excellent addition to the Energy Island. It is being purchased with donated funds on hand from the generosity of many. Also, because much of the boiler upgrade work was donated by Delval employees, led by Rich Daubenspeck, with Williamson students providing skilled labor, some funds that would have been used for the steam turbine and boiler upgrades were applied to the purchase of the engine/generator.The engine/generator will be placed on the site of the former control room. It was demolished by carpentry students and masonry students have completed some work to prepare for the engine/generator’s arrival.
More pictures of the event can be found on the Williamson Facebook page.
