Storm 6W2 Speaks at the American Boiler Manufacturers Association’s Summer Meeting

Trustee Richard Storm 6W2 introduced Williamson College of the Trades (still The Williamson Free School of Mechanical Trades in June when the talk was given) and its mission to members of the American Boiler Manufacturers Association (ABMA) during their summer meeting at Hilton Head Island, SC.

In his talk, “Planning to Build the Workforce of the Future,” Storm, the founder and senior consultant of Storm Technologies, Inc., in Albemarle, NC, covered six major points:

1. A short history of America’s electrification
2. Williamson’s Power Plant Technology Program
3. A review of the current energy supply — where it comes from and where it is forecast to go in the future
4. The largest single problem of our technical talent shortage
5. Partnering with youth and colleges and universities to develop future technically trained people to work in the energy industry
6. The approach of Storm Technologies and Williamson College of the Trades to partnering with industry and colleges

ABMA invited a speaker from Williamson College of the Trades because of the school’s reputation for preparing technically trained young men to enter the boiler and combustion equipment field service business. Storm’s presentation provided an introduction of Williamson to ABMA members and covered the topic of attracting, hiring, motivating, and keeping technical talent.

ABMA is a national trade association which includes all of the major boiler manufacturers and many suppliers to the steam, combustion, and power production industries. The membership represents about 150 manufacturing companies from the United States.
