Snyder is Named VP for Institutional Advancement
Arlene A. Snyder, CFRE, immediate past president of the Sibley Memorial Hospital Foundation in Washington, D.C., has been named Williamson’s vice president for institutional advancement, announced President Michael J. Rounds. She will begin her tenure later this fall.
Rounds said, “After a very long and thorough search, we are thrilled that Arlene has accepted our offer to join the team here at Williamson. Arlene has been inspired by our mission and is eager to lead the Office of Institutional Advancement in its fundraising initiatives. We are impressed with her extensive leadership experience in fund-raising and feel truly blessed to have found someone of her caliber and experience to join our team. We are looking forward to working with her!”
Snyder said, “I am honored to be joining such a significant and unique institution. When I first met President Rounds, he clearly articulated the goals for Williamson and his vision for the future, which will need philanthropic investment to become a reality. Upon meeting the Board of Trustees, I was confident that the drive and commitment of the leadership is in place to accomplish the aggressive agenda to meet the needs of the community we serve. I look forward to building on the many accomplishments that Williamson has experienced, and working with all the constituent groups who are essential to our fundraising success.”
Snyder has a strong background of fund-raising expertise and a track record in developing successful programs, motivating staff and volunteers, establishing productive donor relationships, and achieving goals.
As president of the Sibley Foundation, a supporting foundation for Sibley Memorial Hospital, a member of Johns Hopkins Medicine, she was responsible for strategic leadership and executive management and raised over $39 million in her four-year tenure, more than doubling the historic annual income prior to her leadership.
Among her many other accomplishments were developing the infrastructure that supported a focus on major gift fundraising; closing a $10 million gift, the largest gift in Sibley history, and closing 11 other gifts of $1 million or more; and increasing the annual revenue from $4.2 million in 2010 to over $17 million in 2015. She also planned and executed a $100 million capital campaign which is on target to achieve its goal.
Earlier, she was senior vice president and chief development officer at MedStar, Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C., where she oversaw and managed the center’s philanthropy program to the community by providing leadership and management of operations for Washington Hospital Center Foundation, the fundraising arm of Washington Hospital Center.
Among her accomplishments were increasing annual fundraising revenue from $3.5 million in 2005 to $13.6 million in 2010 by implementing a focus on major gifts that concentrated on million dollar donors and being personally responsible for 11 gifts of $1 million or more, and creating a program that increased first-time donors by 35 percent.
From 2000-2006, she was vice president of development at the Allegheny Health Network in Pittsburgh (formerly West Penn Allegheny Health System), where she provided leadership in fundraising to all hospital CEOs of a 6-hospital health system and the Health System board.
From 1995 to 2006, she was president and CEO of the Western Pennsylvania Hospital Foundation in Pittsburgh, where she provided management for all aspects of the West Penn Hospital Foundation, a supporting foundation to West Penn Hospital. Among her accomplishments were successfully conducting three capital campaigns and creating a planned giving program that increased the endowment from $17 million to $83 million.
From 1976-1995, she was executive director of Vintage, Inc., in Pittsburgh where she oversaw and managed all fundraising and operations for this comprehensive geriatric center. Her accomplishments there included conducting six successful capital campaigns which provided expanded facilities, program growth, and endowment funding.
Snyder is a Certified Fund Raising Executive and holds a bachelor of arts degree and a master of arts degree from the University of Pittsburgh. In 2010, she received the Brava!
