Outstanding Career Fair Held!

The fall Career Fair in the Restall Sports Center was perhaps the most successful one so far, according to Margaret “Weemie” Kingham, placement director and fair coordinator.

“We had 114 vendors meeting with our 77 seniors, which is a new record,” she said. “The vendors were there to recruit our students and all of them had jobs they were seeking to fill.”

Kingham said the high number of vendors was partly because the economy is improving and more and more companies are learning of the excellence of Williamson graduates.

“We send out graduates with top notch career skills and Williamson’s five core values — they are responsible, go to work on time, and have the right attitude. They definitely make good employees and more and more companies are learning this and keep coming back.”

Kingham was especially impressed with the large number of alumni in attendance as company representatives (approximately 50). “Our alumni are proud of their school and proud of their companies. It’s definitely good for our students to see how successful they are because it lets them know where a Williamson education can lead.”

Prior to the Career Fair, students received some good advice on how to conduct themselves in a job search during a Career Panel, a new event held during a General Assembly for all students. Students received advice from Chris Pohlig 9W8, of Whiting-Turner; Frederica Hughes, of Exelon; Dave Foresman, of Green Industry Consulting; and Lauren Zaccagnino, of Axalta.

The fair also included several levels of sponsorship to ensure both recruiters and students the best experience possible. There were various opportunities for sponsors to interact with students, including scheduled presentations to specific trades, one-on-one interviews, and student-led campus tours, to name just a few.

Michele Minicozzi, director of grants and research, said “We are grateful for the wonderful response we had to this effort, especially our Chairman sponsors: Baker Concrete Construction, CentiMark Corp., D.R. Horton, Exelon Power, Lakash Constructors, Northeast Regional Council Carpenters, Shearon Environmental Design, Storm Technologies, Timet, Whiting-Turner, and Zebby Sulecki.”

Chairman sponsorships include registration for both the fall and spring Career Fairs, a full-page advertisement in the Career Fair booklet, an opportunity to make a presentation to specified students in a particular trade, among other perks.

Kingham said the Career Fair was especially successful this year because of the efforts of the many people who assisted in putting it together, including the organizational chart provided by Todd Zachary, senior vice president and chief of staff.

The next Career Fair is Wednesday, Feb. 14, from 9 AM to noon with presentations and interviews taking place from 1-3 PM.
