8 Williamson Students Take Gold Medals at SkillsUSA States!

Williamson’s reputation for producing outstanding tradesmen and well-behaved gentlemen was further cemented across the state as the 12 students in the SkillsUSA state competitions in Hershey, competing in groups and solo, took eight gold, one silver, and two bronze medals.

SkillsUSA advisor and director of construction technology-masonry Peter Zwolak 0W7 said, “The students worked hard, had some fun, and several of them who thought they were not going to do well, won medals. They all demonstrated their skill and their good behavior. Many of them are going on to nationals this June in Kentucky and states was a good practice for them as the competition goes up at that level.”

Gold Medal Winners:

• Automated Manufacturing Technology – Caleb McCarthy 1W9, Ian Waterbury 1W9, and Christian Ripoli 2W0, all Machine Tool Technology
• Masonry – Joshua Speakman 1W9, Construction Technology-Masonry
• Plumbing – Brian Ehly 2W0, Power Plant Technology
• Painting – James Moorhead 2W0, Paint and Coatings Technology
• CNC Milling – Isaac Eshenour 1W9, Machine Tool Technology
• Precision Machining – Richard Lord 1W9, Machine Tool Technology

Silver Medal Winner:

• CNC Technician – John Coleman 1W9, Machine Tool Technology

Bronze Medal Winners:

• Carpentry – Greg Taggart 2W0, Construction Technology-Carpentry
• Skill Demonstration Open – Zac Reynolds 1W9, Machine Tool Technology

Also Competing Was:

• Electrical Wiring – Bryan Archambo 2W0, Power Plant Technology

All gold medal winners are eligible to compete in the national competitions from June 25-29 in Louisville, KY, except James Moorhead and Richard Lord because their categories are not held at nationals.

Also assisting at the state competitions were Steve Atchison 1W2, Paint and Coatings Technology instructor, and Dave Carvin 8W8, Machine Tool Technology instructor. President Michael Rounds and Vice President of Education Samuel Wrightson, also attended.
