Masonry Seniors Exposed to Concrete Industry in Las Vegas
All 12 masonry seniors were exposed to national concrete and masonry organizations, did networking with company representatives, and built relationship with fellow masons from across the country during the World of Concrete 2020, in Las Vegas, NV, Feb. 4-7.
The event brought together 54,000 concrete and masonry industry professionals from 1,310 companies, with 237 companies coming from 29 countries outside the United States.
The students built the entrance to the demonstration area, lent a hand wherever help was needed, and visited with vendors of the concrete and masonry industry. They also watched several contests, including the Spec Mix Bricklayer 500 World Championship and the Fastest Trowel on the Block, with their instructor, Pete Zwolak 0W7, director of construction technology-masonry, serving as a judge.
Tichon Johnson, Damier Kimp, and Daiquan Dunston helped with the Beat the Bricklayer competition. Pete also was interviewed about Williamson and its mission in a live podcast.
Pete said all of the students represented Williamson extremely well and helped spread the good name of Williamson to companies across the nation.
Margaret “Weemie” Kingham, placement director, also attended the event.
Pete says a very big thank you goes to the American Society of Concrete Contractors, an association dedicated to enhancing the capabilities of those who build with concrete, for funding the entire trip.
