
Outstanding Homecoming Offers Something for all Tastes!
With games of football, soccer, and lacrosse, as well as shop open house, a kid zone, and the newly formed Williamson Association of Alumni handing out swag, there were events for all tastes for the alumni and friends attending Homecoming 2022.
The day began with the annual varsity soccer squad taking on a seasoned-alumni squad. The alumni team, with 17 members, pulled out an exciting victory on penalty kicks. The game was tied 3-3 at the end of regulation with goals coming from Chris Smith 1W9, Yohan Banfield 0W4, and Sean O’Donnell 1W4. The game-winning penalty kick came from Kevin Ryan 9W6.
Next, the sports action continued with an alumni lacrosse squad of 11 taking on the varsity team. The varsity team won, 6-3. Gary Lazaro 0W9 scored two goals and Rob Magee 1W9 one.

In the Homecoming football game, the Mechanics took on the New Jersey Warriors, beating them 28-7. Behind a dominating defensive line, junior running back Nazaire Miller rushed for 192 yards and four touchdowns. During halftime, a group of over 40 alumni took center field for a group photograph and to demonstrate their Williamson pride!
The large crowd of alumni and friends also enjoyed a Welcome Center, an Alumni and Friends Chapel Reception, an archives display, the College Store, various concessions, and the Williamson Auxiliary selling baked goods and crafts.
The day also included a large group of young men and their families attending an Admissions Talk and campus tour to learn more about Williamson.
Homecoming concluded at the end of the football game with the entire student body on the field singing the alma mater.
Afterwards, a group went to nearby Casa Mia Italian Bar and Grill to socialize.
The day before Homecoming was a big day for students who spent the afternoon in a series of competitions by shop. Games included volleyball, Olympic handball, futsal, gaga, flickerball, and kickball. The games were organized by Peter Bowersox, director of student engagement, and run by faculty and staff.
The overall winner of the day’s games was horticulture, who get to display the winner’s trophy for the year.
After the games, everyone enjoyed a cookout at the Pavilion and Byers Dorm parking lot. In addition to much food, games included gaga, sand volleyball, basketball, cornhole, darts, tossing footballs, sumo suits, a climbing tower, game truck, and Dilly bars and birch beer.
