Jack Gommer 2W5, a landscape construction and management junior, received the Sons of the American Revolution’s William J. Yearsley 4W1 Award for outstanding service during the Founder’s Day ceremony on Feb. 9 in the Clara Schrenk Memorial Chapel.
This award, presented to him by Steve Kopsick, president of the Sons of the American Revolution’s Philadelphia-Continental Chapter, is presented to a junior who has shown outstanding citizenship and the qualities of industry, self-discipline, personal integrity, reliability, and contributions above the call of duty. He also must have a GPA of 3.25 or higher and have fewer than 28 disciplinary points
Gommer grew up in Media, Pa., and was enrolled in a carpentry vo-tech program at Penncrest High School. Though he enjoyed carpentry, he realized his true interest was tree climbing.
Growing up in Media he knew of Williamson and enrolled in the Landscape Construction and Management Program so he could learn more about tree climbing.
He says he chose the right school because he likes Williamson’s approach to education and the structure of the school. His Williamson activities include Football Support and running with the Cross Country team his first year. He also works out in the weight room of the Wesley Student Center every night and often on the weekend.
Weekends he has a part-time job setting up weddings and doing landscaping for a family. He also has an unusual part-time job, he helps construct houses for firefighters to burn down. Even though he is very busy, he has a 3.97 GPA,
He is very glad he came to Williamson and says, “I love it here. Everyone is so kind and this school opens doors for you that lead to opportunity. I’m very grateful to be a student at Williamson.”
After graduating, he plans to get a job as a tree climber and hopes to talk to several tree climbing companies at the spring Career Fair.

A considerate, thoughtful, modest, and altruistic young man who is always willing to lend a hand and support his classmates, friends, and shop instructor. Stellar among students, his integrity is manifest in everything he does, in all his interactions with others, and his unassailable belief in the truth. Without a doubt, today and many years into the future he will exemplify and embody the core values of IV Williamson.”
