The one-year renovation of Derrickson Dorm was completed at the end of June, under schedule, and was occupied by 24 seniors when classes began on Aug. 26. The renovation began late October 2024.
W.S. Cumby Construction, of Springfield, Pa., did the renovation with Rich Diegle as the superintendent and Brendan Murphy running the job. The architectural work was done by Spiezle Architectural Group of Springfield, Pa., with Bob Reed, principal, and Brett Heisdy as the project manager.
Williamson masonry students built the back porch and steps and did the exterior brick pointing, which was part of an on-going project which started earlier. Landscape Construction and Management students did the landscaping.
The project was part of Williamson’s on-going goal of renovating all of the dormitories to bring them up to current standards while maintaining their historical character.
Funding for the project was provided by: Anonymous, John E. Morgan Foundation, George I. Alden Trust, Crystal Trust, and the William B. Dietrich foundation funded the exterior renovation.
Construction of the dormitory began in March 1891 and was completed in March 1892. It was designed by famed Victorian era architect Frank Furness.
