Homecoming, on Saturday, Oct. 18, attracted many alumni and friends to the Williamson Association of Alumni’s social event in the Wesley Student Center to socialize and grab some alumni swag and snacks. Guests enjoyed Williamson’s varsity soccer and lacrosse teams taking on alumni squads, and the football team going up against Showtime Prep. There also was a Shop Open House, Williamson Auxiliary Sale, and visits to the College Store.
Homecoming started on Friday, Oct. 17, with students competing by shop in a host of games, including volleyball, gaga, basketball, flickerball, European handball, fraz, futsal, cornhole, and basketball. The games were organized by Josh Doerr, director of student engagement, and each game had faculty and staff officiating. Alumni from the Classes of 0W5, 8W5, 9W6, and 9W8 were on hand to help referee the competitions. The games opened with Anthony Zollo 2W6 playing the Star-Spangled Banner on his electric guitar to the delight of the audience.
That evening there was a delicious buffet in the Rowan Hall dining room offered by Tim Burbage, director of food services. Then the students went to the exterior of the Wesley Student Center for the awarding of the Game Day Trophy by Doerr. The first-place trophy went to the very excited masonry students for the second year in a row. Several students participated in a pie eating contest, won by Ethan DiMaio 2W7. Students also enjoyed ice cream, a home run derby, karaoke, esports, s’mores at the BBQ Barn, volleyball, and kickball.
Homecoming Day began early with soccer alumni and the varsity squad joining to form two teams. The Blue Team won 5-0. Then, lacrosse alumni competed against the varsity squad with the varsity team showing they have not lost their skills, winning 9-4.
Throughout the day, an Alumni Welcome Tent was present at the Wesley Center and staffed by the Advancement Department to greet the Alumni who were attending and provide them with an individual gift. This event gave alumni the chance to get reacquainted with old friends and make some new ones.
At 1 PM, the Mechanics took on a tough Showtime Prep football team. They held their own most of the game, but lost steam at the end, losing 26-13.
Throughout the morning, alumni visited the shops, bought some Williamson gear at the School Store, and visited the Williamson Auxiliary sale. Athletic merchandise was available to purchase and the food concession on the upper deck of the Wesley Student Center made sure no one went hungry.
Early in the day, a large group of young men and their families attended an Admissions Presentation and campus tour to learn more about Williamson. Hopefully, many of them will return as freshmen.
