Fifteen Williamson seniors from the Construction Technology-Masonry program traveled to Las Vegas, NV, from Jan. 18-22 to participate in a unique educational opportunity for masons – the International World of Concrete.
The event is the commercial construction industry’s largest masonry and concrete event, attended by over 50,000 masonry professionals from about 20 countries. It features 1,300 exhibitors and interactive exhibits. Williamson students attended educational seminars, learned about new masonry and concrete products, and helped produce one of the conference’s signature events, the Spec Mix Bricklayer 500, where masons competed to construct the largest, highest-quality wall possible in one hour.
Pete Zwolak 0W7, Williamson’s Director of Construction Technology-Masonry, said bringing the senior masonry students to the event is very beneficial. “Every year, the students do an amazing amount of networking with masons from across the country which helps them in their careers and helps them appreciate their trade better.”
Additionally, the World of Concrete showcases Williamson and highlights the college’s role as a workforce development partner for the masonry industry.
