Chidozie Nzeh 2W8, Power Plant Technology student
When I was in high school, I thought about what I wanted my future to look like. I knew I wanted to learn a trade and build a good life for myself, but I wasn’t sure what path I would take. I thought about entering the carpenters union, but my mom told me that her friend’s son attended Williamson. So I did some research. The more I learned, the more I realized that Williamson could give me the chance to learn new things and build a more stable direction for my life.
Now, as I begin my junior year in the Power Plant Technology program, I can see how much I’ve changed since I first arrived on campus. I’ve learned the skills of my trade, gained confidence in myself, made important connections, and discovered possibilities I never expected.
What I appreciate most is the connections I’ve made with the people here. During my freshman year, I joined the Artisans choral group and was one of the few chosen to sing in the Tradesmen group. Performing during morning chapel, at campus events, and in the community gave me the chance to meet students outside my shop and become more comfortable at Williamson.
One of the things I’m most proud of recently is securing a summer internship that I wasn’t sure would come through. Getting the position showed me that sometimes you have to keep working toward something even when you’re not sure how it will turn out. I learned a lot and had an overall great experience.
The Career Fair has also helped me think more seriously about what comes next. I’ve been able to meet companies, set up interviews, and gain experience that I can carry with me after graduation. My long-term goals are simple: build a career, make a good living, and eventually start a family. Williamson is helping me take the steps to make that future possible.
That’s what makes Williamson special to me. It’s not just the education I receive in the classroom and in shop. It’s the people I have met, the experiences I’ve had, and the confidence I’ve gained along the way.
I know firsthand what a Williamson education can mean. I came here looking for a more stable path for my life. Today, I’m preparing for a career and a future I can be proud of.
