Homecoming Offered Something for Everyone!
The Homecoming celebration began Friday with activities for the students and on Saturday included Homecoming events and reunions. A large crowd turned out despite the less than perfect weather and enjoyed many activities and events for all tastes.
The weekend kicked off Friday afternoon with students playing giant kickball, giant soccer, giant volleyball, gaga, a variation of dodgeball played in a gaga pit, four square, and dodge ball. A human foosball game in the Restall Sports Center allowed the participation of a large number of students. The games were organized by Peter Bowersox, director of student engagement, and run by faculty and staff.

That evening, students, faculty, and staff enjoyed the Homecoming Block Party at the Pavilion with food and games. Everyone then moved to the Restall Sports Center to watch a student basketball game. The winner of the day’s games was Power Plant Technology, who get to display the winner’s trophy for the year. The evening ended with a large bonfire and root beer.
Homecoming Day started early with a varsity vs. alumni lacrosse game, with the alumni winning, 7-5. The varsity vs. alumni soccer game was cancelled due to the poor weather.
Also in the morning, guests watched expert pumpkin carver Chuck Feld, a horticulture instructor, carve a large pumpkin, while guests painted their own pumpkins. Other morning events were the Family Fun Zone with face painting and moonbounce and popcorn and cotton candy provided by Richard Rothe. The academic faculty held their annual Faculty Reception with refreshments and mingling, there were shop open houses, and an interesting historical display in the George Heckler 4W2 Archives put together by archivist Lesley Carey. Many bought Williamson souvenirs at the College Store and the Auxiliary’s refreshment table, which also featured the opportunity to purchase raffle tickets to win a beautiful quilt made by Lori Schirk, wife of Eric 8W5.
A large group of young men and their families attended an Admissions Talk and campus tour to learn more about Williamson.
An excellent luncheon was held in the dining room. After lunch, the football game attracted a large crowd to watch the Mechanics take on a tough Delaware Gamecocks team. In a hard-fought game, the Mechanics came out on top winning 19-12, continuing their 6-game winning streak and undefeated season.
The game concluded with the Artisans leading the entire student body on the field, in the singing of the alma mater under the direction of Sherre Gaertner.
That evening, at the reunion for the Classes of 5W8, 6W3, 6W8, 7W3, 7W8, 8W3, 8W8, 9W3, 9W8, 0W3, 0W8, and 1W3 at Duffer’s Mill in Garnet Valley, a large crowd enjoyed good food, old friends, and making new friends.
